Scripture reference: St. Luke 5:1-6

Sometimes it seems as if our best efforts are not good enough to secure our intended results. The men in the above-referenced scripture were experienced fishermen.  They knew how to fish, what time to fish and where to fish.  But this fishing trip did not fill their nets.

Along comes Jesus. He tells the weary men, "Launch out into the deep, and let down your nets for a draught." Peter replied, "Master, we have toiled all night, and have taken nothing: nevertheless at thy word I will let down the net."

If Peter had ignored the words of Jesus, his circumstance would have remained the same: dragging an empty net. If our best efforts are not obedience to our Lord, then our best is not good enough. Sometime we are inclined to do things the same way because "we have always done it this way."  If we are not willing to listen and obey the Master, then our nets will always remain empty.

Our blessings and perhaps the blessings of our family and friends may be predicated upon our willingness to obey Jesus' word.  Let us launch into the deep my friends and watch our blessings overflow our nets.
